Our Unprotected Heritage June 1 and 2

Sargents Historic Preservation Project and Southern Ohio Neighbors Group are pleased to announce that Thomas F. King, the renowned historic preservation expert and author will visit as our guest the first week of June.  Dr. King will speak at SONG-sponsored public events in Chillicothe on Monday, June 1 and in Piketon on Tuesday, June 2, presenting:

Our Unprotected Heritage: From the Stone Age to the Atomic Age

There will be other presentations at both events about the historic and prehistoric heritage of the Lower Scioto Valley.

Please come, bring friends, and pass around the information. We hope both events will serve to galvanize the environmental and preservation movements in our area.  Please come with family and friends!

We invite area organizations to set up tables at the Piketon event, and to join as co-sponsors. (Please contact us for details.) We also need volunteers at and before the events.

Thomas F. King, PhD. is the foremost preservation consultant in the nation. He has authored seven textbooks on cultural resource management and is the author of many if not most of the nation's federal regulations on historic preservation. He formerly served on the staffs of the National Park Service and the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation. His latest book is Our Unprotected Heritage: Whitewashing the Destruction of Our Cultural and Natural Environment. We will have signed copies available for sale. Tom has also been the lead expert witness in federal lawsuits to extend preservation law, including Dugong v. Rumsfeld, a case that established a native people's right to claim an animal species as protected "cultural property."
